All Blacks: Flanker charged after assault on woman

All Blacks flanker Adam Thomson will appear in Hastings Districts court tomorrow charged with assault after an early morning incident in Havelock North yesterday.

Police sources confirmed Thomson had been charged with assaulting a woman, the Dominion Post reported today.

New Zealand Rugby Union professional rugby manager Neil Sorenson was aware of the incident, but said it would be inappropriate to make further comment as it was a police matter.

Thomson, who plays Super 14 rugby for the Highlanders, was on annual leave, Highlanders chief executive Richard Reid said, adding it was too soon to talk about disciplinary measures.

Thomson made his debut for the All Blacks in Wellington this year against Ireland.

...Halfback and fellow All Black Jimmy Cowan was involved in three incidents. He was convicted of two disorderly behaviour charges and a third was dropped.
Otago and Highlanders winger Lucky Mulipola was convicted of assault in Dunedin in April, and he was also convicted on two driving charges.
Both Cowan and Mulipola were given alcohol bans by the New Zealand Rugby Union, their primary employer.
